Most of us were up early on Day 3 of the four-day Three Capes walk because it is the longest, distance-wise, at 19 km. It’s not as hard as it sounds, however, because the first 16 km were an out-and-back walk from Munro Hut to the tip of Cape Pillar, carrying only a day-pack.
That track passes through thick bush at first but opens out on the exposed Cape, where it was often no more than five metres from the cliff edge. The Blade was one of the highlights of a long series of spectacular views.

Back at Munro we collected our big packs and carried them (only 3 km) to Retakunna for our last night on the track. The low cloud over Mt Fortescue became drizzle just after I arrived at Retakunna, so I was very pleased that I hadn’t paused at Munro for coffee.
